Phil, are you really 47????

Good job if you are.

I thought I was the oldest crayon in the box.

Besides the "sword man". Lol.

Just a question to the box builders, how do you wrap/ship your boxes? Who do you use? What's the going shipping rate? Why do I ask so many questions???

Paul,

Yes, I am 47.

For shipping enclosure's, I buy cardboard sheet material that I use to make the shipping carton.

I use sheet foam insulation for packing material that I cut into strips and glue to the cardboard carton to protect the enclosure.

I use Fedex for shipping.

As for the going shipping rate, I don't include that cost into the cost of the enclosure because that's just stupid because each enclosure is different which means their shipping weight is different and the shipping location is different and that is what determines shipping costs and I haver not control over those costs what so ever.

Hmmm, I have a made a living making enclosures????

Let's just say that if anyone is under the impression that I'm living in the lap of luxury, the answer is NO.

I make enough to cover the expenses involved that comes with running a business and to pay myself.

I'm not going to lie, running a business require's alot more time to be put into than a 9 to 5 job most folks work.

My day starts at 6 am and ends around 1-2 am and for what I put into vs what I get of of it, well, that's my cross to bear.

phil that XXX 18 box is very impressive. how/why did you decide to brace it like that, ive never seen it done in that way before. does the sub just sit in the hole?

NVmyBOOM, 120 shipped for a ported enclosure for the CVR's and I will carpet it too =).

I would recommend 3.5 cubes @ 40Hz

Jake,

I did that bracing as such to minimize the amount of bracing for what needed to be braced to reduce panel movement and ( as goodie stated ) to reduce the weight of the enclosure.

Yeah, the sub just basically mounts to the diameter cut and I gave the customer hurricane nuts with hex bolts so he could mount the subwoofer securely along with instruction how to properly install them.

Woodlawn, have you seen JL's HO boxes? If you can duplicate that for other subs, you should have lot of buyers. I don't think JL can patent that design, or can they? It's like other boxes.

Isaac,

I don't nor will not intentionally copy anyone else design of an enclosure whether there is a copy right/ patent of the design.

I had many other similar requests for folks e-mailing me if I can copy another company's/individuals design.

Even I have standards that I will not subjugate just for the sake of making money, though, I'm sure there our company's/individuals out there that would have with doing so.

Why do ya think I didn't hop on the "flared port b0ner wagon", there's nothing overly unique about it other than the " wow factor " of it's appearance. Sure, the " wow factor " sells, but, then that would make me nothing more than a " copy cat " and I ain't about all that.

i can honestly say alot of the guys on the forum respect that phil. keep doing what your doing, i love your work.

have you made any isobaric or bandpass boxes? i would love to see pics of them.

i saw a box last week in the back of a tahoe that was a 6th order bandpass isobaric front to front box with 4 old 8inch clarion subs and a very old clarion 1000watt amp hitting 153.4dB on a termlab. to say the least i was extremely impressed. the box did take up the entire back end of the tahoe tho for only 4 8s haha.

it looked kinda like this...i used paint for the drawing so give me some slack.

Killa,

On some small level, yeah, sure, flaring the port contributes to SPL performance if the intention of the enclosure design is for competition purposes, every little bit helps.

For the everyday " daily driver " that wants good SQ/SPL/SQL performance, I wound not bother using such a port design for my customers unless they expressed such a desire to have such a port.

I'm not going to debate, argue or discuss it either as it would just to into another one those never ending issue's of the opinion's rule on the subject.

Jake,

I've built a few bandpass enclosure's, but none of the isobaric type enclosure that I am aware of.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pic's of those enclosure's, only the design draft details of the enclosures.
