ok I'm new to this forum and slightly new to car audio, I am looking for nice subwoofers, I already have an amp in mind, I've read alot of threads here so I'll tell you everything you need in order to help me choose

I have a 97 dodge stratus
no real budget
I want 4 subs in a ported box
mainly looking for sq
want it loud but not loud enough to damage my car
I listen to rock

these are the subs I was thinking about

Clarion PXW1252
Orion HP 12D2
Eclipse SW6200
Rockford Fosgate P3D212
Alpine Type-R SWR-1222D

any suggestions are welcome, also if you could can you tell me if my choices are good or not

im not the real buff on sq but out of those id say stay away from the p3's clarions or the eclips would be nice...maybe 4 10"s but ill leave this one to someone else im sure u could do better for ur $$$$ than the choices up there.....4 10" fi q's?????

also, how do you plan on putting a ported box for 4 12"s in the trunk of a stratus? are they really that big? i say get 2 12" idmaxs and your set.

Some DD 9100s would suit you nicely.....

But to run 4 of those you're gonna need a huge amp and a seriously beefed up electrical system (HO alternator and battery).

LOL, completely agree with mike :P

If you DO end up putting 4 12's in your trunk, DO NOT block off an air passage to the cabin.

eg.
If you make it upfiring, make it shallow so the waves can pass above the box into the cab.

May have just confused you though. :S
Sorry.

my amp of choice is a pioneer 1200 mono amp, I forgot one sub I kinda wanted but dont think it is a good choice for a car, a pioneer shallow mount, but everyone says there just for trucks, also feel free to direct me in a different direction

no, that cone is fine. and i wouldn't personally go with that pioneer amp, not the best even for the money. with the money you were going to spend on 2 subs, get a ho alt. then get a kinetik battery under the hood and upgrade the big 3. then tell us your budget for the other 2 subs and amp/s.

How much is the Pioneer 1200 Mono amp running for?

Pioneer's amplifiers aren't the greatest, you can get much better for the money.

Lol, I'll draw up a picture in a sec on paint for ya then :-)

Kevlar is very strong, but needs a very big motor/lots of power to get it moving because it is quite heavy.

Paper, or treated paper is very good, usually made quite strong and is quite light. Doesn't need very much power to get it moving(depending on suspension) and a smaller motor as well.

Motor is the magnet btw.

I would go with Mike's or M.S's suggestions.

2 DD 9110's would be very loud and sound incredible, although they come at a price. You get what you pay for, DD is #1 for build quality in my books, and in many others.

IDMax's are arguably one of the best SQ subs around, and also get quite loud. Can't remember exact pricing on them but they are most likely cheaper than the DD's.

$700-1000 for just subs? or with amps?

you could get 2 12" fi q's ($518 shipped i think) and preorder 2 sundown 1000ds' ($450 shipped). just have to wait like 3 more weeks till the amps ship.

Upload

Red = Trunk Space
Brown = Box
Green = Subwoofers
Yellow = Port(Optional)
Blue = Area I was talking about

You notice instead of taking up the Whole room, it would block off any entry of the sound waves to the cabin, therefor you wouldn't hear much bass. That is bad :-)

You could do that, it might look better, but in terms of performance the top setup in my picture above would be much more practical, and sound just as good if not better.

Cheaper too :-)

You know what would be nice, 2 SI MAG 15's sealed on a Sundown SAZ-1500D at .5 ohm. Will be little over $1000 but I will run you a deal on them now. OR, 2 SI BM 12's on a single SAZ-1500D. I'll do that for $900 shipped if interested which is a great deal.
