I'm putting another battery in the back of my car, and I was wondering if it is safe to get this battery:

It's the first battery listed on this page. The "Workaholic" cca battery.

Would this battery solve my small voltage drop?

the best thing to do would to be upgrade your alternator

I don't need that. I only get a small voltage drop at night. Just need something to get the voltage up

just remember when u add a batt that u cant mix and match TYPES... u can mix brands but not types. like dont mix wet and dry cells, or dry and gel, or gel and wet... u get the point if i have a wet cell up front u get a wet for the back :-)

before you add another battery in the trunk, get a kinetik hc1800 for under the hood. after that add another one in the trunk. for the trunk you can go a bit bigger. like the hc2400.

a 2400 would be extreme overkill. Look, im only getting a voltage drop at night when i have the volume on 50/60. and it is VERY small. I can get that battery for free and I was just wondering if it would get the job done.

An extra battery is NOT going to fix your problem. If your voltage is not dropping below 12.5 volts, you're charging system is fine.

An HO alternator with a better voltage regulator may help, but even that may not fix it. When the voltage drops from ~14.4 down to ~12.5 or higher, it is caused by the alt's voltage regulator not being able to respond to the current draw fast enough. An extra battery will do jack sh!t to help that.

Even with a good HO alt, often the voltage regulator is not fast enough to eliminate light dimming and voltage drops. As long as the voltage stays above 12.5, your electrical system is up to par for your equipment's current demand.

on another note...it was discussed in another thread that mixing battery brands is not desirable.

James DOES have a point. Why can't you mix and match battery types?

Slightly different voltage and different charge/discharge rates. It was discussed in more depth in another thread and I don't remember the semantics. But I do remember that the conclusion drawn was that it's not advisable to mix them.

Justin i want to add to that mixing of types, On top of mixing dry with wet or gel cells, you cant really mix batterys that have differenct floater voltages, the battery with the higher voltage will slowly go dead trying to constantly charge the battery with the lower voltage

just use a relay to connect the two different batteries together

try the stinger battery relay
