Building A Box Questions

Hey,
Recently i have been thinking about building my own sub box but i lack some important knowledge .

My questions are..

1. Why Port? and are there spacific spots on the box that sound better? ( EX: Top, Sides Back )

2. Does using part plexiglass take away from sound quality?

3. Sound difference from putting in the magnit side inside the box or have the whole sub reversed and sticking outside the box.

porting the box if done properly will yield more efficiency=more bass
not sure about plexi
to my understanding no difference which way sub faces, purely asthetic
