i have a friend that has two 12" kicker L7's mounted in a super bass probox, its pushed by a kicker kx1200.1 amp. both subs are powered right now. would it be louder if the amp only powered one of the L7's???

definetly not, 1200 watts on any L7 is not a good idea.

thats the problem right there. You got 2 DVC 2ohm subs and that amp puts out full power at 1 ohm. each sub is seeing about 300 watts each and they are rated at 750rms each

that L7 would turn into a heavy piece of trash pretty fast with 1200

If it was me but this is only if you had an upgraded electrical system, I would wire it all at .5 ohm load but start with the gain all the way down and creep it up slowly. Here is a link it will help you adjust the voltage with a DMM do it until it is around 35V and you will know you have the right output and won't fry the subs. If you cannot achieve the desireed output because your input voltage is too high then you will need to find a way to cutdown that also, just an idea...Polo. :-)
