Is speaker wire the same as a power wire? The thing is I am going to be pusing 4000w RMS and I need better than 12 gauge wire and I have some fine 8 gauge power wire sitting in my storage room. Can I use the 8 gauge for less voltage drop and power loss?

you are not going to have voltage drops cause your speakers wires are too thin. that 12 gauge cable going to your subs are fine.

you can use it but you won't notice any difference. besides, the 12 gauge will be easier to work with.

See i used to think that bigger was better too until i realized that once you plug the wires into the sub the actuall wires that go into the spider to the voice coil are dramticly smaller therefore reducing the wire down to that size guage anyway, so you just loose the point of having big wire. look at your tinsel leads and see what guage they are and work from there
