Wtf, how do i get more power!

ok, so , i have a sony 500w 2 channel amp running to a alpine Type R 12" sub , i cant get it to hit hard at all! my friend has a blown 12" no name sub with a 120w amp, and it would beat the **** out of mine, what do i do to get this sub i spent all this money on to hit hard and or how do i get more power out of my amp, i know it can be done, i just dont know how! wow........i feel really stupid!

well damn, that would be easy to to, but in my case i live in the middle of nowhere, and i dont have another amp lieing around, lol

1. i have a singel 12" sub , it has DVC at 4 ohms each, i dont know the rms of it off hand

2. the amp is a sony expload 4/3 channel 500w amp

Sony 500w 4/3 Channel Power Amplifer XM-504Z

Channel-1- has the ground , rem , and 12v hook up
Channel-2- has two +'s and 2 -'s for the frount speakers( which dont use at all )
Channel-3- has two +'s and 2 -'s for the rear spakers which i do have going in to my DVC sub

if thats it its because ur only sending ur sub like 50 watts. maybe,, sony is trash..

get a better amp u need something that does 700-1000rms

also max watts are pointless

damn thanks for the help, well, im guessing im shoping for a new amp, i was thinking about a mono anp but have no idea of brand or watt. i was thinking JL 1000w mono but they look pricey, any suggestions?

if u dont want to spend alot of money, but want a solid amp. an audioburn a8000t or a8002t would work real good for ya :-)
