Will a 500/1 be able to power a 12w7 and not be underpowering it?

if you look on the jl site 500wrms is the 12w7 minimum on the power chart, optimum is like 750-800wrms it looks like.

it will power it, but it will be underpowering. theres plenty of people who have that setup, but personally i'd go with a 1000/1.

you really do have to go with a jl slash series amp meaning a 1000/1 or 500/1 because a w7 runs at 3 ohms and its tough to find a amp that puts out 1000 at 3 ohms i believe pg has one

the pg xenon is 1200w 1-4ohm, and the new alpine pdx is 1000w 1-4 also, and i think jbl makes a few amps that'll push it.

that jbl amp is amazing.. it actually gets more power at 4 ohms than at 1.. plus all those power figures are at 12 volts.. very impressive

The Jl amp put out 1000 regardless of the load.... or find a amp that puts out like 1200-1500@ 2ohms or something that would be arround 1000 @ 3ohms

any amp rated for 1000 watts at 2 ohms or 1500 watts at 1 ohm should give you enough power at 3 ohms for the W7

the PG Xenon 1200.1 would be a really nice choice. they are getting scarce though.

just a quick fact. if its a new JBL amp, check to see if crown made it. if so, its great. if not, keep looking lol. the one in the link above is indeed made by crown though.

anyone know why pg made so few of the xenon? that was the only thing they had goin for them IMO lol.

The JL 500/1 is a great choice for the 12w7 for anyone that is not sure.

I whould recommend putting the JL 500/1 on the 12w7 especially in a Ported box or JL HO BOX.
