i need some help understanding ohms...i know that if you run less ohms or impendance than you get more power but is there any disadvantage to running at lower ohms?...i know that certain subs can only be wired to certain ohm configs but there almost has to be a disadvantage to wiring it at lower ohms... i just dont understand!

yes.
it works the amplifier harder....so it gets hotter.
and i have heard that is reduces SQ...but you couldn't tell in a subwoofer....and the SQ is minute.

Ok here is the calculation (Ohm Law)
I = Amperes
R = Resistant (Ohm)
E = Volts
P = Watts

I = E/R ( the lower R(ohm), the greater Amperes (I), and E (volts) is fixed at your car power)

P = E * I ( since E (Volts) is fixed, the greater Amperage (I), the larger P (watts) will be)
