If you were forced to go with a one sub setup in a 4door Ford Exlporer, what sub would you get to maintain a a pounding Bass reputation. The Explorer has a lot of air space to be pushed around, so I don't think one 12 would work, or could I be wrong?

Nope, If you can only get 1, and you have that much room, I would go with an 18" RE SX.
