My local audio shop told me that a ported 5.00 Cf box would fry my two Powerbase XS15D1 v.2 voicecoils is this true and if not will it sound crappy?
Im just finding out now because they arrive tommarow and i dont really want to fry them!

I've never heard of a box frying the sub. Its possible that the box could be too big for the subs as i'm not aware of the Specs for that sub.

If each sub required 2.5cuft of airspace or close to that you should be fine.

I've come to beleive most local audio shops are complete idiots.

the box itself wont fry a sub.

But if you play the sub below the tuning of a ported box w/ no subsonic filter...the sub will move like crazy (like its not even in a box). You could litterally rip the sub apart. (glue will come loose, spider/surround will rip, sub will bottom out)

by the way, if you local shop is really that stupid.

WALK AWAY
no....RUN.

Build your own box. I have found that most places that "think" they know what they are doing will build crappy boxes tuned to ~40-45hz and sell they as "the best box ever".

Try 30-35hz tuning.

^^ do you mean if the box is tuned to a certain hz and you play a certain note that is higher then the boxes tuned hz it will rip the sub apart?

no...if you tune a box to say, 35hz. You can play 35hz+.

but if you dont have a subsonic filter to get rid of the freqencies below 35hz and you play a song w/ 25hz bass in it, the sub will move like crazy (uncontrolable). When you use a ported box, you should really have a subsonic filter on your amp. (SSF)
