Can you bench test a amp with a DMM?

Can you see how many watts your amp is putting out(bench test)with a DMM?

yes but not how many clean watts. youd need an osciliscope or however u spell it. amps x voltage = watts ... i think thats the formula. if its a true rms dmmm anyway. if not take the final product and multiply by .707

You need a clamp meter.

no, AC voltage form the amplifier. not your battery voltage. a clamp meter clamps around the positive wire going to the sub. it willl read the amps running through the wire. now have a dmm hooked up to the outputs and read the AC voltage. now multiply.

i got a true rms dmm and a clamp meter off ebay for 100 for both.

its pretty good...you can get them at Sears for ~$100.

ya but guys not trying to knock you or anything.

But clamp meters are not very accurate the only true way to tell is to checkt he actual wire you could get a really high number or really low number depending on the placement of the meter its a guessing game you will never have it 100% perfect with a clamp.

but then again i have a $330 top of the line fluke clmap on dmm and thats the same way i would go just saying its not all that accurate
