BL=mass/current. a BL >30 typically means tight, controlled/accurate cone movement and low Qts (which has nothing to do with cone size, by the way). that is, a high BL
HELPS to result in good transient response. but you can also have too great a BL known as an "overmotored" sub. a driver with a Bl of <20 will generally be boomier and not as controlled. one spec means very little without the others taken into consideration, however.

for a SQ sub yes, you want a high BL with a nice parabolic curve.

For an SPL sub, BL isn't as important since a high BL indicates an overdamped sub, and that decreases efficiency, so it decreases output and sensitivity.
