What hz and how many dB would you need to break a wine glass with the speakers in your car? A guy singing on mythbusters did it with 105dB at 556hz. I really want to see a video of someone doing this with there car speakers.

take a cone, and put the larger end to the speaker and the smaller end in front of the glass. this way more of the sound waves will hit the glass....

you have to find the resonant frequency of the wine glass i belive that how the glass is shattered

just put the glass close to the cone and crank it and let it smack the glass and smash it lol

I would imagine if you didnt have a meter you could do it by ear and play test tones until you hear the glass resonante the loudest then turn the volume up 105 db isnt loud but finding test tones that go high enough may be hard

its easy!
use a frquency generator. hook it to the car amp, and generate the tones, while its being amplified real loud. You can even do a sweep with the frequency generator. Thats if the speakers could take it..

As a matter of fact, didnt they use a freq generator on that same episode?

I bealiveve that would be the proper way of lab testing a sub or any speaker also.

what tones should i start on like 400 and go up by 10s just to get an idea(400,410,420)? then when i find a few that are good go by 2s or 1s? i have a bass CD but it only does 240hz so ill search the net for some tones.

yea, prob a little tighter. 5hz intervals at first.
but guessing, 500-900 can be painfull! But it may very well be way higher like 15K.
I forgot the human voice range.

ohh, I have some tones for you.

i dont think my speakers are loud enough. the glass doesnt do anything and i have it volume 26/30. however at 545hz-560hz it moved a little but it didnt break or even come close to breaking.

if anyone else wants to try it please do. im thinking about trying it with one of my old guitar amps because it gets alot louder than my car so maybe it will have enough dB to crack it at least.
