i've got 2 EV SX500+ and a QSC RMX 1850, and i'm looking for a nice mixer with at least 12-16 xlr imputs on it. around a 500 dollar price range. looking for suggestions on what would be good.

I have used Allen & Heath desks, and am familiar with them. They are really nice.

i was looking at the mackie cfx-16 or the cfx-20.

i've been around mackie for a while, and i know they're a quality brand. do you konw much about those two?

I have not used Mackei, but just looking at them, they arent bad.

It depends what you want to use the desk for.

If its for live performance, then look for features that help you get the sound and options you want.

If it is for recording, then look at the recording features.

If it is for both,

then make sure you have enough inputs, outputs, FOH (front of house) and stage monitor faders, grouping capabilities, quality line for recording, yadda yadda yadda.

A couple of things I didnt see was pad and 48 volt phantom power switches. Also line or mic switches.

Looks like you will have to route them manually and not have the shift on the fly.

For the price, they aint bad. When you get into a lot of features then the desk gets bigger in size as well as price.
