the alternator in my blazer put 100 amps of power do you think it would be safe to run 1 RE 12.1 for awhile? I mean I don't want to be out in the middle of no where and not be able to start my car.

A cap will will only put more strain on ur alternator. and I doubt a 100 amp alternator will allow u to draw enough current to run the 12.1 without some problems. Plus u will need about 40 amps to run the stuff in ur car lights, ac, etc.

It's impossible to compensate for a small alternator by throwing in a bigger battery as the battery will just be drained and the voltage will suffer, affecting your light output and overall performance. But when u get a battery get a yellow top.lol

ok so what your telling me to do is just get a bigger alternator right? Ok I have found one for my car it's 240 amps. so do you think that would be good enough, b/c i thought about some where down the road to put in another SX 12 and RE 12.1 amp. so would i need anything else? or just a bigger alternator?

That might be a strain that would be 2400+ watts. Personally i would get the biggest one i could find, just to be safe, and all u need is alternator, battery, and maybe upgrade ur big 3 and ur fine. but to run 1 12.1 that would work perfect

I myself 'might' end up in some poo cause my ride's stock alt is 80A & my 2 new (to be soon installed) amps has 4x20A & 3x40A fuses - i 'may' need a jumpstart every morning now ...lol......

to what size alternator should i look to upgrade (minimum amperage)? What about getting a capacitor? And all i would need would be just one batter if i had two Re 12.1 amps.

325 and up? chauncy its not so easy to find 325A alternators lol. and the price at that is outrageous. im going to get a 250A alternator amd a yellowtop and a batcap 800 to run 2 1200w amps and a 500w amp.

for a 100 amp alt u can use 80 percent of it....add a second batter and an isolator and shouild be able to use 110 percent of the alt in amps

how do you figure? if the alt puts out 100a, how are you going to use 110 and maintain a good voltage? subfanatic I think you should go back to your pot smoking ways and leave ecoustics. or at least pay back the people you owe!

I had a 100 amp alternator with a 300 rms watt amp and that dimmed my headlights a little at idle so be carefull ...and ill be honest before you go for tons of watts to get the spl you want do your homework and find out how to get it by making a well thought out and researched enclosure ....doubling your power only gives you 3 db more but a well built/planned box will give it to you by doing reasearch ....it doesnt take tons of power to get decent spl or sound quality
