Hey guys, I'm trying to help a buddy of mine pick get a system together for his car, and we're debating on the subs to get. We're thinking about getting just 1 12", and want to try to keep it around $200 for the sub. He listens to mainly rap music and while he wants some definate spl, he actually wants real good sq. What do yall think about the Infinity Perfect 12.1 vs the Diamond Audio MacDaddy vs the Memphis 15-M3124. For the amp we were thinking about either a Diamond or a Hifonics amp. His budget total is about $600

the diamond or the memphis, also it is really hard to get both, you either get sql or spl.

Soundstream might not be as good for rap and Massive would be too much toward SPL moreso than SQ.

For SQL (which differs from SQ, for it is a compromised blend of both SQ and SPL to try and achieve the best of both), you want to stick with the Diamond or Memphis for the price, reliability and sound.

While Infinity is fine for up front, the other two beat it for sub bass. Diamond also makes for excellent (better than Infinity) front components, but will exceed your price limit.

If your friend can afford it, an all-Diamond system controlled by a decent head unit would be pretty sweet! :D

Also look into Memphis Power Reference. Their class D 500.1 or 1000.1 are stable to 1 ohm, can safely do MUCH more than rated, and are quite affordable - perhaps the best bang-for-the-buck. I've heard good things about their PR subs as well, though this was with muliple sub systems.

I'm using all Memphis PR amps, speakers and subs in my ride and LOVE the sound, power and reliability! Whole setup, including Premier DEH-P770MP head unit was around $1,000.00.

The last two links are for my sub enclosure running in "Stealth Mode": The downfire config gives me better bass and hides the speaker and amp from prying eyes when the tailgate is open. :-)

The diamond is the way to go definately. Those MacDaddys are killer subs. They get harder and harder to find.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the local deal around here has 1 Diamond MacDaddy left and I think I may be able to get it for a good price.

My friend recently decided to up his budget to around $1000 but he now decided to upgrade the fronts and rears as well. I was thinking about trying to find some component stuff for him, but he's speaker sizes don't work. He's got 4x6's up front and 6x9's in the rear. I was thinking about putting some Diamond or Focals or the like up front, not sure about the back yet, but Diamond and Focal don't make 4x6s and their 6x9 selection is limited. Right now he has a cheaper Pioneer head unit, but he's gonna return it and he's thinking about buying an eclipse head unit. Any suggestions for speakers?
