can you have to much port area. i was wondering because if i get the shocker sub i'm going to port the box but i don't want to small of port and get port noise but what would happen if i went with too much port area. right now i'm thinking of 2 5inch diameter pvc pipes[cut to length of what ever i decide to tune the box to] but what if i use 3 or 4, that would increase the port area but would it help the sub any.

If it is better ported do it. Sealed boxes with alot of power equal higher spl. See what the sub recomends.

w/ a box the size and tuning you are talking about...i would try 40-55sq inches of port.

www.bcae1.com

look for the speaker enclosure calculator.

port area is just how big the ports opening is...ex: 6" pvc has a 28.26sq inch opening. (port area)

the calculator on that site will tell you port length, port area, and net box volume.
