Mitsu Eclipse -> Subs+Hatch= Major gain.

Holy Sh*t.

After hooking up my system and running my subs from outside the car to adjust the gain controls, I closed the trunk and go into the drivers seat. I was amazed by the gain i was getting off the hatch when it was closed. It must have been a gain of close to 20 dB. If I would know this i would have got 1 sub not 2. But what can you do?

Just wanted to let any of you mitsubishi 3g eclipse owners to watch out for that hatch gain it is insane.

20dB is four times the volume you know.
that's equal to 100 times the amplifier power.
that's a bit extreme I think, but I bet you did gain at least 6 to 8dB by closing the hatch lol

I'm looking at buying a 2001 Tiburon right now for a system.. we'll see what happens this summer.
thinking either four 12" or two 13W7s. we'll see.

Yeah glasswolf. Those tiburons are nice. Im going to get it metered. So i should ask them to meter it in the trunk then at the dash right?

meter at the dash, yeah.

I have some pics of the Tiburon I'm looking at. Right now I'm mainly deciding on the insurance and if I'm willing to pay the outrageous amounts they want for that car for insurance haha
we'll see what happens.
I know someone selling a new Impala too, so I'm also waiting to see what they want for that.

Yeah you were right a 12 db gain. Is what i was getting. I did not understand the logrithmic nature of the Decibel scale.

that's good though.. 10dB is twice the volume..

I have a system laid out for that Tiburon now, too.
it's going to be sweet.

2001 Hyundai Tiburon
Eclipse CD8454 CD/MP3/WMA receiver
(2) Zapco EQ30-SL 1/3 octave equalizers
Zapco SP4-SL pre-amp and signal processor (dash mounted)
Zapco rack and wire covers for SymbiLink components and cabling.
(1) Zapco C2K4.0X amplifier @ 100wRMS x 4 channels @ 4 ohms
(2) Zapco C2K6.0X amplifiers @ 1 ohm stereo (subwoofers)
(4) Eclipse Titanium SW9122 12" subs. (750wRMS each) in Aperiodic chambers
Eclipse SC8362 6.5" & 1" silk dome tweeter component set (100wRMS/channel)
Eclipse SP8992 6x9" point-source rear fill drivers (85wRMS/channel)
300A Alternator, and 1/0 gauge power distribution

This is the system layout I have in mind, with the four 12" subs in the hatchback portion of the Tiburon, rear seats untouched, and other speakers in factory locations. The car appears to be very accommodating to a high end system, and with the EQs and some RTA time I could probably get a near perfect C-weighted curve in the car, in excess of 160dB.

That would be an amazing car. I like the tiburons I have driven several. That looks like a hell of a system. I can't wait to see the pics of the system.

hell go with a Bmw that's what i got, the vibrations, oh wait there are none. those cars are so solid i was amazed in the deffence of sound and there really is no vibrations, and that is one of the most anoying things in car audio i think. Mine is a 95 325i. but i need a car with warrenty for college so i'm getting a zx3 focus 2003.

I find BMWs to be ugly, and the tiburon is good on gas, and affordable. a honda of the same year is over twice the cost. Now, if you're going to buy if FOR me, then I'll take the honda or the bmw.

actually right now I'm looking at an 01 Intrepid R/T as well.

its another veilside tiburon. the one I'm looking at is arctic white, and has nicer rims (koenig heliums with yokohama tires) but looks nearly identical.

ehh it's borderline rice.
no lime green paint with lots of stickers...
and I'm keeping the factory wing like the top photo.
not going with that beast of a spoiler there at the bottom heh

However, the 66 Charger counter-balances that rice so I don't feel too bad.

I don't minded modded imports as long as they're tasteful.
it's when they make ya look and shake your head and wonder what they were thinking that I get concerned lol

Yeah that Charger is a hell of a car. Im looking at a 1973 Chevelle SS with a 454. You have to love the classics.

Just got my Eclipse though will have to keep it for awhile I can't afford two cars at once yet.
