Old school Alpine Type-R vs. New Alpine Type-R

Is there a difference that's really significant besides increased power? I'm looking to get into competing, probably street b in dbdrag so 2 12s. I have an old school r-type now and its not too shabby. I was at a show and saw 2 10" old school type-r 10s hit a 142.5 which for 2 cheap 10s is pretty amazing. I guess I want to know if it would be worth it for me to get two of the new alpine type r 12s or just one more of the oldschool ones?

the old type r's are louder per watt wise for sure... they just cant take the power safely.. i just blew my old type r 15 in a 3.somethin ported box giving it 1000 watts.. it was friggin loud just shook everything.. i got a new one under warrenty :-) and hooked that up to the same amp .. was a little gentler with it but still could tell it wasnt as loud as the other.. i guess it depends if u want to hit high numbers id go with the older ones .. they probably wont last the wattage that you can give the newer ones however
