when im trying to build a box w/ the recommended displacement, i don't have to take in to account the room th sub itself takes up when installed, right?

You have to have curtain air space inside the box, and all the things go into consideration, how much material is inside, if you ahve brazing or not and the sub all ahs to be counted for. If thats too much reverse the sub and reverse the terminals :-) lol, but I personalyl like my subs INSIDE my box...

net box volume should be after adding in the displacement of the driver and the volume of any ports if it's a ported box.
