i was just sitting here and all of a sudden this thought popped into my head. lol
probably will never happen, but they would be durable, and really nice for cheap.
leave your thoughts if you have any on this.

well it's "easy" for a small company to make subs.. but not so much for the HU... yet that's all relative

imo, the great speaker companies generally make speakers and only speakers.
only recently have amps begun to surface to compliment the build of the drivers of such companies.
and i appreciate the care with which JL, DLS, and PHASS (to name a few) have approached the endeavor. concentration yields successful engineering vs the potential profit that might come from diversifying.

i own DLS front and rear speakers, and their ULtimate A6 amp!

i love DLS.:-)

i agree with you on that point, the more focused they are on certain aspects of car audio, the better they can make their products.
but like the companies you've mentioned, they branched out into every category, but didn't go the cheap way.
in other words...Quality = $.

Thats true ,better a small company specialises in 1 or 2 areas than spread itself thin trying to compete & end up like the lanzer/pyramid crowd .

Fully agree with mike. The best in the business are those that remain dedicated to their roots, and focus on being a niche manufacturer instead of a large corporation. As you get larger and become able to dedicate engineering facilities and manufacturing facilities to a diverse product lineup, then you can do it and quite possibly do it well. But it takes a dedicated leader to take a company to that point, because at that point most companies get greedy and concentrate on cutting manufacturing cost and jacking the price up. That is why I fully support companies such as JL Audio, regardless of what you may think, you have to agree that as they have gotten larger and diversified their product, they have still gone to the same effort that made them popular to begin with, which is solid engineering, excellent build quality, and most importantly, caring for the customer and going the extra mile to make sure that their needs are taken care of.

just heard this song today:
Guess Who's Back by Mike Jones, it's a chopped and screwed version of one of Lil Jon's songs. it hits REALLY LOW, no i'm serious, REALLY LOW!
i had to turn my HU down.

u all should listen to it on your system to see how low your subs can go!Upload

when you go fomr 15 to 18 the amount of volume your enclosure is dramatically increases... although i do have like 14cuft (prolly more thats a guess) to work with id rather not use all of it.

trevor,

RE recommends 6.5cuft tuned to 32hz for the SX18. You could easily fit one :-)

Oh...they recommend 3.5cuft tuned to 32hz for the SX15.

but you must also consider that im building a box with like 92sqinches of port area tuned to 30hz... that brings my 15sx box to 5cuft net. for the 18 it would probably be some 8 or 9 cuftnet.

but marshal you seem to have a lot of experience. with the 18 i could probably gain like what 1 decible? but could it get as punchy as the 15? the reason i like 15s so much i sbecause you have the more surface area to get low but still with quality woofers can hit the tight bass.

the SX18 and SX15 will both produce sound nearly the same...the 18" will just be able to get louder. when you have more Sd, the sub doesnt have to move as far to displace the same amount of air that a smaller sub would displace at a higher excursion level.

Its all gonna depend on your install. Oh, and it your box turns out anything like mine...MAKE SURE YOU BRACE IT!!! my box flexes like crazy, i havnt had the time to pull the sub and port out so that i can brace it yet. by the way, my box is ~6.5cu ft gross.

oh...and if your doing a 3.5-4cuft net box, you dont need all that port area. 50-70" of port is way plenty w/ that size box.

yeah i was going to do 5cuft net... i think it was appx 7.7 cuft gross or something i dont remember. and its gonna have bracing as well. i think MO has a 6.5cuft gross box for his 15SX and he said he can bounce pennies off it... thats why im giong to add bracing as i think he is too.

Trevor i have a 4.?? cuft. box tuned to 30hz and it gets very LOUD and LOW and Clean while it plays any song. Im very impressed with the SX 15 and it has met all my expectations so far. I cant wait to hear more songs on it as the days go. Ive been testing in my car for about 3 days now and its definetly my favorite sub that ive owned so far and that says alot cause ive heard alot of subs. IN my case i listen to alot of RAP music but this sub plays most rock music very well and clean. I think the box plays the biggest role with this sub. Definetly i whould recommend ported with this sub and with the right amount of trunk or cargo area. I have mine in a SUV and you can hear it banging up the block on most songs. It sounds amazing on just about every volume level that i tried. I didnt even dare to push the volume up on my pioneer 860 more then 17 because of how hard it hits and how loud it gets and doesnt miss a note while doing it. WARNING... LOUD LOW CLEAN BASS with this sub in the right box.

Thanks to MARK at www.thecaraudiobox.com for building me the right size box for this SX 15. IM definetly getting all the bass i wanted out of this sub and then some.

I have my 18" SX in 7.5 tuned to 30 Hz in a SUV if it helps anyone.

I wish RE did make Headunits. I'd get 3 of 'em right away.
