Question about how much current my amps can pull

I am just curious to know if the built in fuses on amplifiers are a reliable indication of how much current they can/will draw? If my two amplifiers (PPI AX400 and Zapco 500.1) together have built in fuses totaling 70 amps (30 and 40, respectively), should I assume that the current draw from these amps at full power will not exceed 70 amps total, give or take a little? Thanks for the help.

Nah, the fuses give a somewhat accurate guess.

What is the RMS output and how many channels are you using on each amp?

The current draw at full power can exceed the 70 amps, but not for too long. The fuses will allow more current than the rating for a certain period of time.

The current draw will also depend on the impedance. If the amp is stable at 2 ohms or 1 ohm, then the fuse is large enough to allow the proper current for that load. If you run at 4 ohms, the current draw will likely be far less.

The fuse rating gives you a general idea of what the amp can draw at its highest output, but it's not definitive.

there are formulas for calculating current draw from your amplifier here:
