i just got a new mtx 5500 in a sledgehammer box and only a 150 watt amp right now it says 300 rms so if i get a 300 watt amp it wont be too much because i have only a 8 gauge power + ground wire

I think the sub ur talking about is 4ohm dvc, so you can wire it for a 2ohm load, and get the most power from this amp. Try to find specifics on your sub just to make sure, and let me know if interested.
