Definitely need to know if they are SVC or DVC and if they are 4 ohm.

You need to go with a Mono amp for your subs.

if u got dual 4ohm coils then it'll be 1 ohm if both subs are connected together .

Only amp that comes to mind is around $300($340 actually) is Hifonics Brutus 2005D (rated 2000rms @ 1ohm) - ppl on this forum say they're overated so u should still get the 1500rms u need .

It can actually be wired at 1 ohm or 4 ohms, but I would personally go with 1 ohm.

I would go with the Orion, Kicker, or one of the others mentioned above. I've read message after message on these forums about Hifonics amps running extremely hot at 1 ohm and only lasting a very short time.

Yes a MONO amp is best for subs.

Well he did set the price range @ $300 - so that was the cheapest i could find -lol.

Personally i would save up & buy Orion 1200D $430 ,it's 1200wrms so u got power to spare & amp would run cooler too .

In the 1500wrms range choices are limited as there isn't much models to choose from & some CA$H is needed.

Cadence Z777DG - Cadence 1600 Watt Mono Amplifier $683 ....1600wrms
OR
Diamond Audio D61500.1 - Diamond Audio Amplifier $582.....1500wrms

www.woofersetc.com check them out & see what u can afford ........

is it better to have a smaller wattage amp than the sub wattage or smaller sub wattage than the amp wattage

Its always a better to get an amp about 20/25 more power than u actually need for reasons i said before (i read that on a few sites on the web) ,just be carefull with the gains setting though !

yep , i read too little power causes distortion & coil overheating thus ruining subs much easier than actually overpowering .

www.bcae1.com they explained it very nicely .

If you would rather buy a brand new amp than an used one. I would highly suggest an eD nine.1 or an RE 12.1.

These amps will produce 1200wrms and then some. Plus they are only a little out of your price range and you get a 3yr warranty on both of them. You could just save a little move and go w/ one of these. I think they are ~$360+ship.

or you could go on ebay and look for a used amp...something like a kicker kx1200.1, jbl bp1200.1, hifonics 1605, or something along those lines.

Just curious, if you're going to purchase amps that are 1000w+, then call their tech support line and ask if the rms power numbers are "continuous".
I know Hifonics is not.
Don't you all wonder why Hifonics/Sony/Pyramid/Lanzar etc, their 1000w rms amps are under $200? Compare that to Zapco/JL's 1000w.
You are not getting the same power nor quality. And it's not matter of overrated numbers. Even if those cheap amps could hit 1000w, it will only be for a fraction of a sec.

for a pair of dual 4 ohm L7s, I'd get theKicker KX1200.1 or the Hifonics brutus 1500d
either amp will be 1 ohm stable and give the pwoer you need
