i will be buying 2 12 inch subs will there be a noticeable difference in sound from a cheaper sub like sony versus an alpine if they both have the same amount of rms watts?

very much so. we're talking about subwoofer efficiency and it's ability to accurately reproduce the original recording. The bulk of coloration in a system comes from the drivers themselves. higher quality=better sound.

If you want Alpine subs, check eBay stores for the Type-R subs. 500w RMS and much cheaper than Best Buy. You should be able to find them for $120 or less shipped.

I would avoid Kenwood subs.

You can buy a decent 1000 watt rms amp for around 250-300 that will run the type rs nicely. Look at hifonics, directed, interfire theres just to many possibilities to list.

sure
the hifonics brutus 1500d puts out about 1000 watts real power. they say 1500 but it's badly over-spec'ed
amp is about $200 online
