sealed is better for SQ
ported is better for Loudness
ported boxes get louder than sealed boxes b/c you can control the subwoofers' excursion by tuning the box with the port
the longer the port the lower the box is tuned

if you have a subwoofer in a sealed box with "x" amount of watts, and you then put that subwoofer in a ported box you gain 3 decibels:-)

if it is recommended for a sealed enclosure then you should go ahead with the sealed enclosure, unless you know how to tune a box, go to an audioshop and have them build you one:-)

the reason i say to have a ported box built is b/c every sub varies in the amount of airspace it needs to perform at its best, and most boxes can't supply you with the proper airspace:-) not to say that a prefab box wouldn't be big enough, but it might be off of your subs' air specs by too much or not enough:-)

it should be okay, as long as you don't put more than 200 watts rms on it.:-)

i read somewhere that if the efficiency is just 3 db lower u will have to have the volume up twice as high for the same sound is this true

to gain 3db you have to add another sub with the same power on both as you had on just the one sub
or you have to port the box
or you have to double the power to the sub.

hondarider, the volume knob will not have to be literally twice as high for the volume of the sub with low efficency to be as loud. Volume knobs apply power exponentially to make up for the fact that the decibal scale is logrithmic.
