Amp too strong?

Just a quick question. I have a kenwood KAC-9102D amp powering my alpine type R 12 inch (SWR-1242D) subwoofer. I was wondering if the amp is too much for the sub? I have the gains set to match the HU preout volts (2v). Its a pioneer DEH-p3600. I can put the volume up to atleast 42, no bottoming out, no clipping, doesnt sound distorted at all. But what im wondering is if over time it will end up killing the sub.

The amp puts out (supposedly) 850 watts RMS @ 2ohms.

Any input from you guys would be great.

An amp with a higher wattage output than the speaker rating wont necesarily damage the sub. Just turn the amp down a bit if you hear distortion from the sub and dont run it at really high volumes for a long time.
