I thought about the 1200.1 but it is 1200 RMS at 1 ohm and the L7 is 1500 max

its rated at 12 volts. a birth sheet on it will be somewhere right around 1500 watts at 14.4 volts.

You don't think that around 900 watts over the recommended peak power is a little to much power?

well your car wont do 14.4, usually. it will do about 13.8 and just be easy on the levels and what not

how did you figure that out? I thought that the rms was around half of the peak. But I didn't know you could figure out the power output by the volts it is at.

do you recommend any other amps?

yep. i dont know the equation off the top of my head, but rough estimates usually work. so it will do right around 1350 at 13.8 volts.

oh, all right, but i've heard that L7s sound better with more power then recommended. What do you think?

700 watts rms @ 4 ohms bridged @ 12.5 volts

Do you think that the sub is better at 1 or 4 ohms? I was told that the lower the ohms the better, is this true?

The higher the ohms the better. The amp will run cooler, and will have a better damping factor.

yeah i like 4 better then 1 myself

No I mean does the sub hit harder at lower ohms?

no

why do people wire their subs down to lower ohms then? What is the point? I have heard of people wiring their systems down lower than .5 ohms.

if you have not gotten the sub already get dual 4ohm and get the kicker 1200.1. This way you will get 600 watts at 2ohms and if you ever want to add another you can wire it to 1 ohm and have 1200 watts.

It will be a while until I can save up enough money to get an amp but what kind of box do you recommend for it? I was thinking of a vented box. What do you think?

The reason is that when you lower the impedance, you are creating less resistance, and are allowing more power. Most ratings on subs/amps are at 4Ohms. They can be lowered, but should match impedance wise. Certain amps only go below a certain impedance level, so dont wire your system for 1 Ohms, if your amp isnt even 1 ohms stable.
