what if the box is not the right size for the subs? if i put two 10s that require .625 cu ft each into a box with a total size of .4 cu ft what would happen?

You might as well get the most out of your subs or your money will be waisted. Get a right sized box...

depending on the difference between the spaces it could sound good...but a box affects a sub alot in performance..it might sound good in one box but in the right box it could sound amazing

Or you could go the easy route, add 3/4 a LB of polly fill to each side, and make the box seem like it is closer to .625. You can always build a new box later if you don't like it.

JeremyC, you don't ADD filler to increase volume. his box is too small, not too big.

BIG ed, the box will most likely limit yer subs' excursion, which means you won't get desired SPL out of them. it'll probably affect yer freq response to, like limit it, but i don't know how or by how much. are you sure the enclosure has .4 total, and not just on each side(as in there's a dividing wall between each subs airspace)? .4 seems pretty small, like it wouldnt even fit two 10s.

If the box is too small will typically result in a boomy system that appears to have strong midbass and less low bass. Typically power-handling is improved though, unless the box is REALLY too small! You can compensate somewhat for a small box volume by adding stuffing to the box.

Yes you add filler to increase volume if the filler is polyfill anyways The stuffing can make the box appear up to 40% larger to the driver.

the reason there is limited space is because the box is going into a s10, and thats the largest custom box that can fit behind the seat.
