I'm assuming you're talking about a bandpass box as most have fiberglass in order to see the subs. It depends on how you like your music. The box can be tuned lower and produce a more boomier sound than a sealed box because the sub isn't being pushed to its full excursion (Isaac mentioned something to this effect in one of his posts).
