Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 1398 Registered: Feb-05 | I wanna get either the Digital Designs 3512 or the 3515 but not sure how it compares to the Avalanche 15. I know the DD's are gonna be ported and the Avalanche sealed. Both powered by a CrossFire VR1000D - 1000 x 1 @ 12.5 volts. Avalanche 15 - 800 watts rms DD 3512 and 3515 - 1000 watts rms Will the 3512 have more output then the Avalanche 15 cause i know the 3515 will. Thanks. |

Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 1417 Registered: Feb-05 | Thanks for replying jonathan, as you know the Avalanche will be at 2.25 cu ft. sealed and the DD 3512 whould be ported at 2.25 cu ft. ported but not sure about 40hz ? Not sure which will put out more SPL and SQ and all that when comparing the 2. It will be going in a trunk of my car and for that reason i wanna stay with a 3512 and not the 15 versian of the DD sub so i can keep the box smaller so i can get the most out of my trunk space. http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/caraudio/enclosureInfo/boxSize_hiEff.asp |

It's a good sounding sub that gets loud, while the DD is a loud sub that sounds good, know what I mean? And yes, you aren't going to be able to go much lower than 40hz with those subs, they have a high fs (resonant frequency). For overall bandwidth and musicality, I'd stick with the Avalanche. |
Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 1419 Registered: Feb-05 | Here is what a tech guy at DD emailed me we build a different type of sub than the current xmax spec fad that is marketed hard these days. we work on delivering high energy with excellent control so that sound quality is good at all levels of play. we have ongoing R&D using real systems in cars to keep improving the real world performance of our products. we don't single out a certain spec to promote, we do whatever is neccessary to make the product work for an application. I listen to mostly RAP and just wanna make the right choice in my car between the 2. I know sealed and ported sound differant. |
Gold Member Username: Jonathan_fGA USA Post Number: 4029 Registered: May-04 | He's actually correct, x-max is often overrated. If you are using a ported box, x-max really isn't that important because the port controls the sub so heavily. Biggest problem with the high tune is that you lose cone control below that point, so if you get a 30hz bass line, it'll be sloppier than if you were talking about something like a Brahma sealed within it's linear range. Ported, motor strength and surface area are the big players. Sealed, however, x-max CAN be good (depending on how the x-max spec was obtained), as it allows a sub to get loud over a wide bandwidth, and not be driven into overexcursion easily. |
Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 1420 Registered: Feb-05 | I know the Avalanche 15 is alot more efficiant then the DD 3512 sub but considering the DD whould be ported it should sound great either way in my application if im not mistaken. I am running either setup off my CrossFire VR1000D that puts out over 1000 watts rms |
Gold Member Username: Suleman36Post Number: 1421 Registered: Feb-05 | I agree that the Avalanche 15 sealed at 2.25 cubes should have better SQ and get really loud as james longo has stated many times but i was very curouis about the DD 3512 and its capabilities aswell since no one around here owns one as the same can be said about the Avalanche 15. |
