What does a blown sub sound like when its just being pushed by hand?? im trying to confirm/fix my friends sub right now...
ive got the dustcap off and am not sure what to be looking for though
there appears to be some seperation though between the actual "cone material" and the metal tube its connected to
im thinking the subs shot...i just wanna make sure
i checked the tinsel leads and those are all solid

It's really stiff. The cone doesn't move very well at all due to the voice coil being rubbed against the magnet.

A blown sub...? theres no bass when there should be..or the bass on your favorite song makes you think...uh that sounds really bad...Its just like when you listen to music on your cd player (head cassett) n you turn the bass on listen to it for a lil bit then turn it off...that plan sound like it just doesnt sound right...thats when you no its blown...n yeah..push on the center softly half way back and listen...youll hear a scratchy crumbleing noise..that means its blown...but a blown sub..simpley wont bump like it used to..dont crank it up to test..but to 10 or 15 n you should notice a difference.

Can you pull the cone far enough up so that you can see teh voice coil? You can tell whether a voice coil is melted by looking at it.

if the sub makes a scratching noise when its not powered and/or its frozen (has no flex when you push the dust cap) its blown. however, if you only blew one voice coil, the sub can still be salvaged but you can only use the functional voice coil.
