Mono amps are better than 4 channel to run subs for bass. Most of the time you need to get to the upper range of the RMS of the sub for the best results. The RMS of your amp and sub or subs should match to be safe. If you keep the volume down and don't clip the subs you can run more amp watts than your subs has. But more volume is always better so match you amp and subs.

Its better to overpower your subs then to underpower them, but dont overpower them by too much.
