I think any of these amps in no particular order will go with my Sub which needs 800W RMS @ 2 Ohm, I'm after opinions on listing them in order of quality
http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNA8000T Audiobahn A8000T
http://www.cardomain.com/item/BOSRT1500D Boss Riot 1500D
http://www.cardomain.com/item/MTXTA7801 MTX Audio Thunder TA7801
http://www.cardomain.com/item/MTX801D MTX Audio Thunder801D
http://www.cardomain.com/item/POWA1000DB Power Acoustik A1000DB
as well as these Kenwoods 850W RMS @ 2Ohm
http://www.cardomain.com/item/KENKAC9102D Kenwood KAC-9102D and 900W @ 2Ohm http://www.cardomain.com/item/KENKAC9152D Kenwood KAC-9152D which I thought were close enough.

I have read that high quality brands sometimes give lower ratings for their amps so that they can get into lower categories in competitions so I'll also add these 750W for opinions sake
http://www.cardomain.com/item/ROCT10001BD Rockford Fosgate Power T10001bd and 760W
http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/products.php?action=view&product_id=98 FJL-811D

If any of you can sort this list from most awsome to least awsome from a quality perspective, then I can hit the local shops and see what I can afford.

Any comments on weather any of these amps might clip with the max power of the sub being 1600W would also be appreciated.

Hey Lenny, I would definately stay away from Boss, Power Acoustik and Kenwood amps. They are no good. Especially for a NICE sub like that. These kind of crappy amps will go into clipping much sooner than a higher quality amp will.

Audiobahn can be good for people on a budget, I am not sure if you are or what. Besides, I have heard that the A8000T is a pretty good amp, but it more than likely won't put out 800w RMS, it is an overrated amp.

It depends on how much money you have. I would look for a nice JL 1000/1 on ebay. It will be giving your sub plenty of power and nice sound quality. I think your sub should be able to handle 1000w without a problem.

I go MTX all the way, you might have to pay more but you wont be sorry. I have had 2 older MTX amps for about 4 years now and never had one problem with them. Their clear and clean sound and produce more rms than Mtx claims because they have such high standards at rating them. I plane one geting the MTX TA 7801 soon as well.

I whould disagree with Sevin7 on RF being higher than MTX. RF has more THD and a worse singal to noise ratio than MTX. Also RF overates their amps so you geting less power than they claim. RF might be cheaper than MTX and thats the only area the maybee beat MTX at.

rf actually underates their amps. to a very large degree in fact. e.g., my 500bd was over 600watts on the birth sheet.

I can't remember where I seen it, but a comparable RF amp went up verse a MTX amp and MTX won in every instance but price.

RF's new amps are way under-rated, and they are more expensive than mtx amps. My freinds p3001 is rated @ 300rms, and is putting out over 380rms.

MTX IS CHEAPER!!! and better haha thats the nice part-- RF makes some real good quality stuff but as far as amps(in your list) MTX-- but theres better out there if your not stressed about price like JL/Zapco/Orion/Xtant but those amps probably cost more then peoples entire systems

I am sorry but whenever I think of Rockford, I think of some of the CRAP they attempt to sell at Best Buy. Alot of the people that work at BB have no idea what they are talking about and it just has mad me frown apon anything they try to sell to me. I just tend to stay away from best buy when it comes to sub and amps. But that's just me.

yes isaac your right SOME people at best buy know just about what they sell but there are some that are very knowledgeable-- they set me up with the best possible system for the price and that includes subs/amp/box/install/deck and i only got the deck there because of the free install-- they actually told me to get different stuff then what they carried

Anon,

JL's website is being stupid, Zapco don't seem to have any mono amps

Orion's 1200D http://www.orioncaraudio.com/amps/Dmono.asp is 725W @ 2Ohm but I guess at the $'s they talk about, it is way way way underrated, and anyways, if I am going to power a no name 15" with a 500oz magnet, I bet I would be called "stupid as stupid does" with too much money if I got it

Xtant's http://www.xtant.com/html/products/X1001.cfm has a THD of <2%, it seems common in other amps I've been looking at to be <1% I am not trying to say that means anything because I havn't figured it out yet but it does sound odd

But yeah, I'm not made of moneys sadly so I guess I'll have to stick with the upper mid range which I believe is RF and MTX with MTX having a slight lead.

Any recommendations on other Amps that actually deliver 800 or more Watts @ 2Ohm would be handy, especially with a link.

I spoke to the shop where I bought the Fusion sub http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/products.php?action=view&product_id=34 and when I asked him if the 800W RMS was over rated or under rated, he said it was evenly rated, I dunno if he liked me asking that question... I also set him the task of finding me a price on building and tuning a band pass box and he said they only use the best builder in Australia, with weak comments like that I am not very impressed with him, and he reckoned it would cost about AU$350

Isaac,

What makes you call the sub NICE? Are you just looking at the 800W RMS bit or do you know something about them that would be useful for me to know?

Anyone,

Is it right to be aiming to have an amplifier RMS matching/exceeding the RMS of the speaker or is it a waste?

I thought you people might be interested to know the system is to go into a blue '05 Suzuki jimny... it's like a sub box all on its own :-)

Lenny, that isn't a no name brand sub. I have heard of Fusion before and have heard good things about them. And with that sub being some of the higher level stuff they make, I called the sub nice. And it's not a cheap sub by any means.

As for Zapco, they do have mono amps, and they are REALLY nice, but I really think that they are going to be out of your price range. Case in point:

http://www.acaraudio.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=27&products_id=1166&o sCsid=0047cb4874c9bf26a51ae79d857d10cb

I personally would stay away from RF, just because they are starting to make junk compared to their older stuff. So maybe look into MTX and maybe Orion or Xtant. And I still don't think a JL 1000/1 would be a bad idea. So it's up to you on what you want to buy and deciding what your price range is.
