What is the best enclosure for a 94-01 Acura Integra LS hatchbck 3dr
-One set CDT 6.5 CL-61a -One Kicker 800.4 4X100 amp -One Kicker 12" CompVR subwoofer
The sub will sit where the OEM spare tire fits just underneath my rear tower brace facing the back of the tailights in a 90 degree fashion.
What is the best incosure for someone who: -likes deep sharp bass -likes sealed boxes -listens to Rap mostly, R&B, Rock, Classic Rock and Classical. -truley enjoyed his previous 2 JL12WO
I need to creat an enclosure that has sound qulity and deep bass as a priority.
What is the difference between stuffing the Kicker 12" CompVR in a 1ft cupic box vs a 1.5ft cupic box?
Also where is the best place and direction to set the sub? I always found facing backwords is the best even compared to facing it twords the rear window to "point the bass forwad".
try using a ported enclosure for that 12" build the enclosure to be 2cu ft, after driver and port displacement. use a 4" ID port. tune the port (length) to about 34Hz and give it a try. you should get a great, deep and pretty sharp response from that box.
Thanks again GlassWolf. However, I do like the way a sealed box sounds and more important is the weight of the 2cu ft box. I assume I need three quarter inch press board and 2ft of that is heavy. That is part of the reason I went with only 1 12" sub. Do you think it will work well in a sealed 1 or 1.5 inch enclosure. I have never really had good luck with ported boxes (probably due to lack of ability to tune the box).
yeah you can go that route. tuning the ports isn't that hard as long as you know the box volume after port and driver displacement. either way. you want some weight to the box though. that's what keeps resonation to a minimum, and reduces box flex. yes you want 5/8" or 3/4" MDF
Any ideas on the difference a 1ft box vs a 1.5ft box? How is the sound going to change between the two? Should I go somewhere in the middle like 1.2 or 1.3? Or should I stay light and go 1ft with some of the box stuffing? I heard the box stuffing make the box sound bigger?
smaller boxes yield a tighter, snappier response. larger boxes extend low frequency response, and yield more SPL. somewhere in teh middle like 1.25cu ft would be a good compromise.
If you can mount it to fire into the slanted back window you will have more cabin gain, which I think you will like. But it has to fire up into the window, not really back, if not fire up, still will get some gain the farther forward you mount it.
Really... I have always found that pointing the subs strait back to the tail-lights in a hatchback was best? However, I have seen many setups like you describe above, regardless I really want to be sure on this one. What you say makes sence. Let's see what others say. Wolf?
