Higher price, lower power/lower price, higher power

I am getting ready to install an old pair of RF 8 inch subs (150 RMS, 300max each, 4ohm)in a sealed box.I have had these laying around unisntalled for awhile. Anyway,
The question is, for the money, would i be better off going with a Top brand name amplifier that just meets the RMS wattage and running it near maximum...or, getting a lower end amp that is way overpowered and running it at almost minimum?
For example RF Punch 5002(500x1) vs Profile ap2000(960x1). Maybe not the best example, but you get my drift.
Thanks.

It generally takes a lot less than the rms rated power for a sub to reach full excursion especially in a sealed enclosure.

At 125 x 2 @ 4 ohms the 5002 would push those subs fine.

However, the P3001(300x1 @ 2 ohms) would be a less expensive option.

I'm not recommending you buy from Crutchfield, but that gives you a good idea of the price difference.

Thanks for the info, I'm not a RF fanatic, obviously, I'm just looking to drive those two 8's as hard as they will go without blowing them or the bank. Any advice on best bang for my buck would be appreciated.
Thanks again.
I have an old ('92) autotek 75x4, think that might work?

Oops, make that an old autotek 7050. I think it is 44w x 2. guess that answers that question, but the question of which amp still remains.

How much you have in the bank? :P

This would work:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18797%26item%3D5771839162 %26

I own 5 Xtant amps, 4 of which are in my Explorer and am perfectly happy with all of them.

As far as the best bang for the buck I don't think you can beat this:

http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=sourub3002&store=&catid=303

I own one of these as well. It'll do 300x1 into a 2 or 4 ohm load at 14.4v, a lil less at 12v. It powered a pair of 10w3d2's pretty well at 2 ohms, but the nice thing about it is that if you ever upgrade your subs it would make a great amp for a set of components(75x2 at 4 ohms).

The Xtant would be a bit punchier, but if you're on a budget..... that Soundstream is discontinued and used to list for over $300.

There's plenty of other options out there. Those are just two I'm directly familiar with.

Dunno, but Profile is in the "bad" category in the "Good, the Bad and the Ugly" list:

Probably be better off going with something else.
