Silver Member Username: TpizzlePost Number: 240 Registered: Apr-05 | so i know how moving the gain knob affects how much performance and watts the amp puts out, but do you guys recommend keeping the gain strong (like 4v) or weak (like 1v) or in the middle. i heard just move the knob until the speakers start clipping, but in general for best performance where should the gain be? thanks |

Honestly, the only way to say for sure, is turn the HU to a level you usually listen at (about half, for me) then slowly turn the gain up from 0 to when you hear the speakers start to clip (it helps to have a friend turn the gain up for you, so you can be the deciding ear), when the speakers just start to clip, turn the gain down a tiny bit, and that is where you should leave it. that way, it will reach max volume with as little distortion as possible at typical listening level. in other words, use your own ears to judge the level. |
