I was going to get the kicker kx400.1 but I was told the jl 500.1 would be a better option... do I need this? Should I spend the extra? can the speaker handle 500w rms even though its rated at 400rms?

you could go with the 500/1 but turn the gains wayy down and even maybe turnt he bass down on your head unit...
that kx400.1 wouldnt be a bad choice either tho
