Silver Member Username: Tdeaton1021Near Tampa, Florida USA Post Number: 130 Registered: Sep-04 | okay last firday me n my friends got to drive this kids truck for the night.. its an escalade on 24s lol... well the system was great in the SQ department but i wasnt too happy with spl... he had 4 10w6v2s with 2 zapco 1400 watt amps... an eclipse deck and zapco EQ... i was mazed that he was running 700 watts RMS to each sub and they handled it fine.. i was not to happy tho with the loudness... it was loud.. but i have heard much louder... i thought 4 10w6v2s with that much power would have been louder... so im kind of concerned on W6v2s performance now... i have always been thinking if i should get 3 13w6v2s in a sealed box with a 500/1 each or 2 13w7s with a 1000/1 each... i think now the W7s might be alot louder than the w6v2s... but i have never heared 13w6v2s... i would hope that htey are much louder than the 4 10w6v2s.. do any of you guys have experience with similar setups that i have mentioned and could help me out? id appreciate it thanks. |

A well designed stereo will be alot easer on the ears than a distorted stereo. The reason crappy stereos seem really loud to the ears is distortion is really bad for your ears. So to know how loud it really is, you need to have it measured. |

That, or like many SQ vehicles, he had the subs attenuated on purpose to give a flat curve on an RTA. A flat curve gets you points, but it sounds very weak in the low end because the human hearing range is far less sensitive to low frequency, which is why a C weighted sound curve used in competition metering is an inversed bell curve between 20-20KHz end result being the 12W6v2 is a great sub, and can get very loud. What you experienced was a matter of the system setup more than the equipment used. If you want louder subs though, look at the RE triple X line, Adire Brahma, or JL W7 lines. They all also need a lot more power though. |

Silver Member Username: Tdeaton1021Near Tampa, Florida USA Post Number: 136 Registered: Sep-04 | okay guys dont even start to tell me im lieing...lol... if you want pictures i;ll get you some in time... and this isnt my friend... eprsonally i think hes kind of a dick... he went to jamaca for spring break and left his truck home... his dad let his(the dads) girlfriends (my friends mom) son (my friend) take the truck for the night... this kid doesnt knwo the slightest thing about what is system does... he just gave some place in tampa 8 grand to do it all up ... i turned up the bass level on the EQ so it was playing pretty loud... just not as loud as i expected.... and i know he wouldnt even really care if they blew... daddy would pay for it anyway... he treats his stuff like crap... his leather is borwn because he has never cleaned it once... he had more clothes in the back seat then i have altogether... he had 4 24 inch spinners in the back seat... soda residue on the subwoofers... its a joke... i clean my escalade all the time... i really appreciate the fact that my parents gave me it... and some day i will have a better system when i save up my own money with a job (not daddys money) and i will be the type of person to turn all my stuff down so my friends dont brake it... although not too many people will have the chance to get to drive it though.. so far only one of my friends have and thats cuz i was drunk lol... but you geys better believe that i was rollin around in some1 elses escalade on 24s with 4 10w6v2s lol he goes to some college in tampa or sumin so idk when i;ll get to talk to him next but i;ll ask him how its wired n stuff but he proly wont know.. i;ll fill you guys in on it later |

Silver Member Username: Tdeaton1021Near Tampa, Florida USA Post Number: 144 Registered: Sep-04 | believe it or not im in your shoes as well... my parents have way more money then neeeded to pay my insurance... but i still have to pay 20$ of insurance per week (80 a month about) and also i have to say 25% of the money i make for college even tho its all going to be paid for already... the only reason i have an escalade is because my dad was going to trade it in and they would only give him 28K... which is a ripoff for an escalade with 40K miles.. so i said dad why dont you save around 6 grand and give it to me... and he thought about it and did... i grew up with a dad form mississippi... i used to have to wake up growing up and do all kinds of yard work... i still do sometimes now but not as often... i always had chores and i always had stricter rules than all of my friends... i am required to get good grades and i over achive in that area... so if you think of the definition of spoiled it mean rotten or gone bad... i am in no sense spoiled .. yes i drink ocasionally without my parents approval... but i obey and respect them more than anyone i know.... once again being spoiled does not have to do with what you have but how you act with the things you have... the kid with the escalade on 24s expects his dad to buy him everything and is also not a good kid or a particulary nice kid... he is spoiled... another one of my friends doesnt appreciate anything his mom does for him... heck alot of my friends dont... they always complain about their moms and dads... i know mine are worse... they just dont appreciate anything so therefore they are spoiled... i am by no means perfect but i am certainly not spoiled... just a lil thought ..lol |

At least Trevor seems to have let it drop" see now you've been yelling in an agrivated manor also lol... and you have no idea where im coming from.... i prolly grew up better than you did 40 years ago which may baffle you but im serious. knowing that your 40 i respect you an an elder but i respect myself to speak up. but about the regularly schedualed programing .... all i can say is i was in a escalade on 24s with 4 10w6v2s with 2 1400 watt zapco amps ... an eclipse head unit and zapco EQ ... with the bass knob on the EQ turned 75 percent of the way up (i didnt put it at 100% because it was not my own equipment and i didnt want to be held responsible) it sounded absolutely AMAZING! i have no doubt on the SQ abilities of 10w6v2s ... however i didnt find it mind bogling loud... i thought i would be unable to listen to it at that volume for continuous amounts of time but it sounded so good i loved it lol... i jus thought with it turned up as far as it was it would have more SPL potential. i also dont know if the subs were getting the 700 watts RMS each like it seemed to be... they could have been wired in series to give them 350 watts RMs or something else that i did not know about. but being that your 40 and form a previous post i talked to you in i believe you werent into the insane loudness and more of a Sq person so if your looking into SQ go rob this kids system... he lives on....lol JK |

I'm trying to decide betwen 1 12W6 @ 500 watts or 2 10W6's @ 2x500 in sealed enclosures. I'm looking for somewhere I can audition both in-car, but so far no luck. You're right I'm SQ orientated all the way, but I'm also worried about low frequency extension. Did those 10's drop low? The 12w6 looks really good in this department on WinISD(rec. sealed) compared to other 12's, but the 10's weren't that much of an improvement and seemed to lag a good deal behind the 12w6. My 10w3's overpower my front stage as it is, the problem is they're ported and I don't think one 10 sealed will be loud enough even for me and 2 12's will take up nearly twice the cargo space. I'm also concerned about midbass transition as I've only got 5 1/4 Q's up front. I know ID max 12's are supposedly good for that, but am a bit worried about the 12w6. I'm in the process of building a sealed for my 10w3's that will work with 10w6's(.75-.8 ft^3 per). Guess I'll see how that sounds and go from there. I could maybe talk the guys Sound Advice into lettin me drop a couple in and and "return" them right away for a 12 or two if I'm not satisfied. Thanks for the input guys. Keep it coming. -Fishy |

Might even be less than that as the 10's could reach Xmax with a lot less than 500 watts. Except for a brief stint with a 15w5 in a sealed enclosure I've owned nothing but ported 10's so its kind of hard for me to make a decison here. Twice the power only gives you about a 3 db increase, and two 10's don't have that much more surface area than a 12 really. A 3 db increase is pretty hard to hear in my opinion. Ton of surface area for a 10", has an extremely low resonant frequency (20.4hz for the 10v3d2). It gets low, and with a 25hz tuning frequency, it can get louder than it would be sealed and still sound fantastic. |
