Inverting subwoofers?

what effect (if any at all) does mounting a subwoofer with the magnet facing out do to:

1. SQ?
2. SPL?

you'll lose 1-2 db i think. its just for looks or if you can't make a box thats deep enough for the magnet to fit in your car.

I really doubt you'd even lose 1-2 db's. It really does nothing twords the output of the sub. Some people do it to loook cool. Sometimes the box is too shallow and the sub won't fit in. Sometimes the box is very slightly too small, so instead of using up more space with the sub's displacement, they invert it to get all they can out of the box.
