if you hear like real nasty crackling when the sub is supposed to be playing, that would tell you...another way that may work is if you press down on the cone as evenely as possible and if u feel or heara a scratchy sound, that could be a blown VC too

and also if you have a dmm or voltmeter you can run a simple test and check resistance in ohms and also a continuity test. jay
