I've heard that type r's are not recommended for ported enclosures. has anyone else heard of this? what's the optimum enclosure for the type r to bring out its fullest capabilities?

Crutchfield recommends box type 1,2, and 3 or sealed, ported, and bandpass. I have seen them installed in free-air config too http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=67700&I=500SWR1241

figure it by the numbers.
get the TS specs for the subs.

Efficiency Bandwidth Product (EBP)
EBP = Fs / Qes
50 or less = best used in a sealed enclosure.
50 - 90 = flexible enclosure options.
90 or greater = best used in ported enclosure.

alpine type r's measure in the 50-90 range. what do you mean by flexible enclosure options? build the box so the box can flex? i'm not sure. type r measures in at 68.4 ebp. help?

type Rs work best in a 42 litre ported box with a 32cm long port. Check out www.alpine.com for full specs on their subs
