one of my shiva's cones has 2 big tears in it :-(
on the bright side, this is an excuse for me to try a brahma

i was running 2 sealed shiva's off an mtx 8001d. its birth sheet says 907 watts at 2 ohms.

is this enuff power to run one brahma? would it be louder than my 2 shiva's? im thinking i might just sell my other shiva and do a single brahma. whats the power difference with ported vs sealed? im considering a ported brahma, but subzero sells sealed boxes specifically designed for the brahma. maybe ill even go with a different subwoofer.

im looking for one under 400 bucks, and sq is most important. i want it to thump louder than my 2 shiva's tho. ive heard good things about idmax too. what do u guys think?

p.s. i got the shiva for only 75 bucks... and i think it was abused by the guy before me. only worked for a month or 2. but its not really worth it to send it in to be fixed i guess...

I don't think the one brahma would be louder than two shivas, due to having half the surface area, even with the added Xmax, but it'd be pretty close.
900 watts is plenty for a brahma, as in the proper box it only needs about 600 watts to reach peak excursion.

contact Adire for a price on reconing the shiva as well
may be a cheaper option and they'll rebuild it to new specs.

yup +3dB ideal gain with ported over sealed with the same sub and same power at the ported enclosure's tuned frequency.

and isn't adding 3dB like doubling the loudness (can't think of a better word)?

10 db is twice as loud, 3 db is a noticeable improvement.

3dB = doubling of amplifier power. every time you double power, you gain 3dB. therefore, if you gain 3dB, it's like doubling your amps output.

right idea... wrong adjective djeter.
