Very interesting reading, although according to the article's example, for a 1200 watt amp you would need an additional 120 amps to properly run a class D amp.

Are this high of an alternator common? Jeez, my stock alt is 105 and I ordered a 160 amp from http://www.mralternator.com they did have 200's but a bit to pricey. I am running two Hifonics amps, one Brutus 1500 watt (max) and one Nemisis 100x4 watts. Getting the alternator put in Monday and also installed an Optima Yellow Top battery. My old alternator died a few days ago (with the old battery too) so hope this fixes things. But from what I read in the article, do people really have alts that run over 200 amp? These are not very common from what I have seen.

that'd be 120A at full output from a 1200 watt class D amp.
remember every time you halve the output of the amp, you decrease power by a factor of ten.
at half volume audibly, you're talking about 120 watts, and 12A of current.
your 160A will probably be fine.

Ahhh, thanks again Glass, now I think I get it. Good to know I will be okay, I figured that the 160 I got should do the trick and it makes me feel better that you agree.
