My friend just bought a new Yukon and I wanna know if 2 12" Alpine type X's would be enough to be heard 1 block away. He wants some of that bass where people can feel the vibration outside the car. Can these woofers provide that? About the amp that's gonna be ran, that doesn't matter. He'll get whatever the subs need to be powered with.
well, I imagine you'd be able to hear him that far off, sure.. the type X is Alpine's entry into the 'super sub' world of high excursion subs like the W7, triple X, and so on. Now as a point of FYI, the more you hear any system outside the car, the more inefficient the system really is. Sound is energy, and the more energy you transmit to outside of the SUV, the less you'll hear inside the cabin. That's pretty simple physics at work there. This is a primary reason for using sound deadening materials in cars for high end systems. It not only reduces vibration for SQ reasons, but mainly it lowers the Fs of the cabin, and improves the system efficiency greatly, thereby increasing the SPL inside the vehicle.
All you'll do by trying to be loud outside the car is tick off your neighbors, and surrounding motorists, and probably attract the attention of any cops within about a thousand feet, who'll then write your friend a citation for disturbing the peace, or noise ordinance violations. Some areas, if you get nabbed for this two or three times, the impound your car on teh spot, then strip out your system and sell it at auction.
something to keep in mind. please boom responsibly.
