I just made some additions to my system, i had a lightning audio 400W 4 channel amp, and i am putting in a JL 500/1 to power a 12W7 in a ported box. I drive a 1993 honda civic EX. will a new battery with more reserve time be enough? I found one with 70 mins and 550 CCA. or will I need a new alternator also?

the battery only helps when the engine is off.
when the engine is running, the battery is being charged, and the alternator provides all electrical current to the vehicle.

you need a high output alternator. check ebay.
I see them around 200A for Hondas all the time there.
cheap, too.

Thanks alot for your help, I have one last question: would there be a big difference in 135 and 150A for the system I have? Its an extra $50 for the 150A alternator. Is it worth the money for 15 more amps considering a 900W system and a 60W x 4 alpine which connects directly to the battery?

the alpine head unit is 27x2 actually. you go by RMS not MAX ratings.
that's ~110 + the 900 from the other amp, which means you're drawing a bit over 100A of current for the amplifiers.
go with the 150A alternator or a 165A if you can find one.
