ive been to nationals and seen an l7 12 blown plus were not going to be using this daily were using it for spl so were going to push it....and the corners arent good for that on the l7...they rip apart

they dont warranty abusive use....and it will be used for just spl in a burp box on 1500 rms....the design flaw is the corners and no gettting around that either

sean has a point.
the sub in itself has a fundamental design flaw. the square corners create uneven pressure. L7's have a bad rep for blowing. i imagine if he threw a solid 750 and had all settings properly it would be very very loud for that power.

L7's are pretty nice budget spl subs if u dont abuse them

L7's are nice budget spl subs but imo they sound like sh1t have reliabilty issues, another sub you could look at would be a mmats juggernaught, it uses the DD 95 b motor so you know it gets loud.

These best sub threads make me laugh. Getting 20 different answers should be proof that there is no absolute best. It is all application dependent, and still would be VERY hard to decide. But with 1500rms, there aren't many pure high end SPL subs that will reach their full potential off of that. You will want something that is semi-efficient for sure.

I disagree, the question was straight forward with one objective, flat out, SPL

That woofer would be the Z series from DD.
For SPL, this woofer is the best in production to date.

No guesses, no maybes, hands down, nothing touches it right now.

Why?, it's MS/MF and linear excursion. Fact is it has a driving force that exceeds all other woofers
while displacing air.

An argument may arise, "well how can a weak little 10" woofer do 180 in port wars?"
Well its relative to the overall area being compressed. That 10" created 180db in a tiny speaker box, not a huge cabin of a vehicle.

"Cone area and excursion", although a huge factor, lets forget about this for just a second and think about the actual force it takes to pressurize an area. The larger the area, the more force needed, right?, k lets go with this...

Now!consider the force that drives the cone,

Lets say we find a single large woofer that will displace exactly the same amount of air as a number of smaller woofers. Now, you would think they would be capable of producing comparable SPL, right?
Maybe, maybe not...you must factor in motor strength, although that huge woofer can move the same amount air as the little woofers, it may not have as much motor strength as the others collectively. One large magnet versus 6 smaller ones...anywho you see the point here...

there isnt a woofer in production that comes close the DD's Z motor, not to mention its coupled with a moving assembly that is in a league of its own.

The composite material and technique used for their woofer's cone was developed by NASA and to date this material has the HIGHEST STRENGTH TO WEIGHT RATIO known to man. Formula 1 has been using this material for their chassis and parts for years.

So crucial to SPL, the moving assembly, why not use a material that is the most rigid, And the lightest!?

Imagine your arm being the magnet of a speaker, your fist being the voice coil. Now swing your arm forward and back as fast as you can.
Now pick up a 10 pound dumb bell and try it again, much harder to isnt it.
This is the problem many manufactures face when trying to strengthen their cone's.
While rigidity is important, weight cannot be ignored.
Hence my saying DD has thee best cone available on the market....as for the motor?, no woofer company i know of has anything comparable to their neo technology.

Look at specs that matter, not just the thermal capabilities and excursion.

nicely said zac, but to get all that out of a dd z you'll need atleast 10krms, i would also like to know how the neo-sig compares, granted it doesn't have the cone DD does but theres no denying that it has a crazy motor.

sean, i love the info you gave on the Z. excellent.
however, he did say he only had 1500 watts and with that im guessing he also is just thinking SPL is "loud" not necessarily differentiating between 30 hz and 60 hz.
my gut instinct tells me hes looking for a street beat sub. Im gonna Reccomend:

RD alpha
Fi BL
atomic ELE ( seems like this woofer has dropped off the earth but its still one HELL of a sub )

Zac, altough a very informative post I would have to disagree. You neglected to consider that he only has 1500rms to work with. You can try to argue that sub will have more output than any other sub, but with 1500rms efficiency is going to play a key role. I a not saying your suggestion is wrong, but I am saying there is a good chance the Z series from DD won't have the most output with only 1500rms.

But I have to say, the Z series is a beastly sub for sure. It would deff. be a top contender here.

hahah you obvislouly have no clue what a shocker sig is if you ask that question, they don't have a website anymore, sh1t they haven't had one for like 3-4years that i know of, the only place you can get them is a car audio shop from ohio which just happens to be like 15mins from my house, LOL they have a account on ebay if you want a shocker sub email them and there build it for ya.

With the current trend of SQ this board is slowly turning towards I would like to see all and any square subs abolished.
