OK...well I am finishing up my first ported box for an L7, just so I have some practice for this summer. Lemme know what you think. I still will do a little more work to it, but it's about done!
To be honest I am not sure. i asked for MDF at Menards and they said this was it. I thought particle board was the stuff that looks like chips of wood glued together?
well sh!t...oh well, I'll deal with it for this box, I am not too woried with one L7. I will make sure I get the right stuff this summer when I upgrade. Just for the future, what does the MDF give me that the particle board does not. Performance, looks, sound, etc?
IMO - whenever possible even on a small box its a big advantage when a box is braced ,the energy saved from vibrating wood will then go into more output 4 ur music
it does make a considerable difference
from the pix i will say u def got a chipboard looking material since mdf is more compact & u dont see like the texture - but hey no harm since i seen ppl use reg plywood & still sounded decnt enough ........
Yeah I figure it has to be better than plywood. And as for the bracing, I will see what I can do. The top is only screwed on (the rest is glued and screwed), but I put a caulk bead on the top so that it would seal up nice and tight. So I will probably try to get in there through the cutout. If I can't and something happens, oh well, this whole box is just a learning experience anyways.
