Silver Member Username: TheelfkeeperStockbridge, GA USA Post Number: 923 Registered: Feb-05 | MECP book says 125-150 amps for 10-13 feet http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp the12volt says a little more |
Unregistered guest | My personal opinion is that it can carry up to around 175 amps. Im running 150 through my 0 gauge stinger pro wire. |

Nate So Unregistered guest | Im assuming you have an upgraded battery and alternator, and that you have a capacitor. If so high quality 0 gauge wire should be fine, but you will have to ground the cap and the rf amp with 0 gauge. you could get away grounding the other amp with 2 gauge if you use 2 gauge for the power of that amp. Make sense??? also use a 325 amp fuse or around that. |
Silver Member Username: RzarectorCoquitlam, Bc Canada Post Number: 889 Registered: Dec-04 | well all the stuff isnt bought yet. but i will have a 250 amp alternator and 1 or 2 yellow tops in the back..i may get a cap, just debating weather its worth another 200 or so.. i researched a little bit and it seems running about 320 amps through 1/0 over 8 ft will give me a 0.9 voltage drop.. the alpine amp is getting 4 gau in and 4 gau ground. with some batteries in the back though i could cut down on the length of power to the amps by more than half. |

Bronze Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 18 Registered: Jan-06 | Funny thing my manual for my Kicker SX1250.1 say to use 2ga and the included 150amp fuse. Can I get away with two strands of 2ga safely? Polo.. |
NAte SO Unregistered guest | If possible just use 0 guage to the cap... you technically could run two 2 gauge to the cap... but that would be gey... but if you ran one 2 gauge and one 0 gauge to two seperate caps... that would be sweet... |

Silver Member Username: RzarectorCoquitlam, Bc Canada Post Number: 898 Registered: Dec-04 | yeh 150 amps seems rediculously low for 1/0 |
Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 504 Registered: Mar-04 | at 15' 1/0 can provide 330A before Vdrop reaches 1/2V which is the acceptable maximum. At 10' you could draw close to 350A through it before you run into any problems. |
Silver Member Username: SolacedagonyNew Jersey US Post Number: 788 Registered: Oct-04 | The wire gauge and LENGTH of that wire both affect how much current you can reliably run across it. |
Silver Member Username: B101Queen City, NC USA Post Number: 848 Registered: Sep-05 | yea, the longer the wire the more resistance. But if you were to put a current clamp on that 0ga wire, I belive it dont pass that much current. I know in competition it is better to run multiple strands, even if the wire is shorter than 10ft!! |
Silver Member Username: B101Queen City, NC USA Post Number: 849 Registered: Sep-05 | like Brandon said the MECP book says 125-150 amps for 10-13 feet!! How many of you guys are MECP certified? OK |
Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 516 Registered: Mar-04 | then mecp's wiring guidelines are ridiculous. I'd like to know how they came to that conclusion. |
Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 517 Registered: Mar-04 | then right below the power/distange chart they show the capacity of 1/0 at 350A. Which is it? |
Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 518 Registered: Mar-04 | uhh, forget that last post - for some reason I thought 12volts charts were mecp's specs. |
